The following are some of the best ten tips on how you can improve the search engine visibility of your blog using some popular Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques.

Top 10 Basic SEO tips 2015-16 for every new blogger or webmaster

#1 Create Quality Content

There has been a lot of written about “quality content” and there is not a single exception to the fact that “Content is always King”. The blog content is among the most important aspects of a high ranking site. Compelling and well written contents will automatically attract readers to your blog posts.

It is not only the search engines that require your blog to have quality contents, but your readers are influenced by the contents. You have to put a lot of hard work in creating the content that attracts and impresses your readers as well as search engines, and Hard work pays, every time!

#2 Make it Easier to Navigate your blog

The way you link the blog pages is important in helping both the search engines and visitors find the contents they need. Therefore, it has a big impact to the ranking of your blog.

Create hierarchy of links that flow naturally without complex navigation links. Do not follow outgoing links that are irrelevant to your niche. You also control the navigation from one page to another through text links.

Interlink your blog posts properly and link your posts using anchor texts. Even Google gives a lot of importance to the sites that follow user friendly site navigation.

#3 Careful Keyword Search

The keywords you use will tell both the visitors and search engines about the subject of your blog site. Therefore, it is important to collect keywords commonly used in your niche. If you are an individual blogger then search for such SEO tools that offer keyword checking and keyword analysis for your chosen topic.

You must also use Google AdWords Keyword tool to research your main key words that are of prime importance to your blog. Again, you should strategically distribute the keywords into your contents. And, never play or manipulate your key words, use them wisely and naturally throughout your posts.

#4 Do Not Overuse Flashes and Images

Even though flashes and images may look awesome and bring some fun to your contents, it is difficult for search engines to analyze videos and images in the same way it does with the text. Therefore, any useful information that is image based will be invisible to the search engines.

The only way to improve your blog ranking is to describe this information in text format. But, images are very important part of any blog post and i must say ” you must always include at least one image per blog post!”  And always use ALT tags for the images you insert in your posts.

#5 Use Urls that are SEO Friendly

If you use a messy URL, it will be difficult for the search engine to crawl the URLs and index your blog pages. This may make it hard for your blog to rank high in the search results. To achieve good results, avoid the usage of lengthy Urls with unnecessary characters.

Do not use excessive keywords. I would recommend putting urls manually instead of the letting them generate automatically for your posts. Put the main key words in your post nearest to the starting part of the url. And the same goes for the title part. Use your key words in the starting of the post title.

#6 Use both the types of SEO methods : On-page and Off-page Search engine Optimization

Yes, keep a healthy balance between On-page and Off-page SEO for your blog. Both SEO methods are very important and very crucial in making your blog a real success. And, the readers also keep their faith in such type of content creation that is ranking high on search engines and have made a good social media presence among the blogging communities.

Generate relevantly good backlinks from the high authority web 2.0 and article directory sites. Write unique articles on these sites and get links back to your blog. Make this a habit to Ping your blogs+ articles whenever you publish them . Use this great pinging tool well.

#7 Exchanging Links with Peer Blogs

Exchanging links with blogs in the same niche is an off-page SEO technique with the aim of building up back links. In this process you post links on others blog sites, which will lead the readers back to your blog page; and in exchange of this you give a link back to the other blog.

Be aware of link exchange trap, it could be very harmful for your blog and could get it penalized for exchanging links and manipulating things. This trick used to be very good and popular 10 years back.

Now, Google may come down hardly if you go rampant on collecting easy back links this way. But, Link exchange is still beneficial if used widely. Create only 1-2% links ( of the total number of backlinks to your blog) via exchanging and let your backlinks stay natural. AND even these links should be coming from good and relevant blogs-sites.

#8 Use Sitemap & Robots.txt

A sitemap is like a road map for the search engines, especially when making a new page or posting a new article. The main versions of sitemap are XML sitemap and HTML sitemap. XML sitemap help search engines to know the pages in your website or blog, how often you update them, and their relative importance to each other. HTML sitemap help visitors to find the contents they need. You should use both or at least an XML sitemap for your blog. After creating your XML sitemap, submit it to Google and Bing Webmaster Tools.

This protocol is also called robots exclusion protocol. It helps the search engines to determine the file, which should be indexed and those that should not be indexed. A good robots.txt will allow the search engine spider to index all files in the blog. See our Robots at and you will notice this small text file-

User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-admin/
Disallow: /wp-includes/

#9 Be Aware of Dofollow and No-Follow Links

It is important to note that search engines will ignore your links if they have no-follow attributes. Therefore, you should check the backlinks to your blog to ensure that they have mix type of DoFollow and Nofollow attributes.

Getting only Dofollow links makes your backlinking look unnatural and having very less Dofollow keeps your blog away from taking the advantage of ‘link juice’. The latter is responsible for improving your Google page rank and blog domain authority and online reputation.

So, always use a kind of backlink building strategy that involves getting both types of links- DoFollow + NoFollow. This will work in great favor for your blog and your backlinks will look natural and safe towards any Google Panda, Penguin, or Future updates from Google Anti Spam system.

#10 Do Not Pay for Any SEO Service without knowing the consequences

This tip is for those new bloggers who get very desperate to promote their blogs and they fall prey to wrong services. Some bloggers pay to freelancers and SEO companies to do some part of their SEO process.

Do not pay straightly for any SEO services provider because you do not know what you may get from their services. They may get your blog blacklisted on many authority sites/forums/social platforms. Instead, go for some SEO forums and blogs for help.
